It has been 48 years since the Democratic Republic of Congo gained independence from Belgium. This is a country that has always experienced either conflict or dictatorship. The latest war broke out in 1996. At the height of the war, the armies of nine African countries were either directly or indirectly involved in the DRC. A vast country with immense economic resources, the Democratic Republic of Congo has been at the centre of what could be termed Africa’s world war. In this edition of Tam Tam Express, we put the post-conflict reconstruction of the Democratic Republic of Congo under the spotlight and ask: What is the importance of Post-conflict reconstruction in breaking the cycle of return conflicts?
