AGRO AFRICA: As global economic trends face uncertain future regional integration becomes the solution. Regional macro-economies will play a major role to alleviate most of the ills experienced by countries due to unprecedented food insecurity and high fuel prices. NEPAD, the New Partnership For Development is a program within the African Union which has been in the fore front of introducing innovative developmental concepts in many countries, let alone, regional blocks in the continent. This initiative is also a vision and a strategic framework for Africa’s rebirth. While agriculture feeds into the continental bread basket, transportation of agricultural produce is hampered by poor transport networks in most countries, especially, the landlocked ones. At a recent workshop by South Africa’s Agriculture Business Chamber, NEPAD presented a paper on an ‘envisaged solution’ for transport networks in the continent. ChannelAfrica talks to John Rocha, Senior Projects Manager from NEPAD’s Business Foundation.
